since I logged on & posted a little about our ity bity .. she will be 11 month old next week.. where has the time come! She is full of energy & most days never stops! We have completed 3 obedience class! she knows sit, stay, wait, place, shake, give, leave (this is the top one!) , get back. I am sure there are a few more! We are teaching her names of toys & objects now.. like ball, rope etc.
We have discovered that she has quite the nose & are considering taking her to a K9 Nose class.. just learn the basics of sniff & find, more for search & rescue. She never stops sniffing, to the point she gets in trouble because it! She is always right, when she wants something underneath, she is relentless to have us retrieve it.. she has us well trained lol.
Winter is upon us & we are not getting out of the house enough.. so we play ball in the house all day long!. she loves her balls.. but then anything in her mouth makes her a happy girl! We need a visit to the vets, after that she can go swimming at the local Doggie pool... that should help with the winter energy!
I put the Christmas tree up & she sniffed it good & has not bothered it yet! she is so good about not eating what is not hers! She doesn't like our moving lighted bear .. she doesn't know what to think about it! so she barks!
Soon we will be celebrating her birthday!

14 weeks
Our little girl is getting big! her last weigh in, she was 18 lb. In honor of her birthday on Tuesday... we are having her spayed.. it was a tough decision.. but glad it will be done!
I gave her a med. milk bone & she decided she was going to hide it.. oh my it was so funny watching her dig a hole in the blankets & then cover with her nose! our Shadow used to bury or hide her bones.. so cute. think we have about 5-6 bury in the living room!

2 & half weeks
we have had her now almost 3 weeks... my how she has grown.. she is responding to treats.. will come if you get her attention. Her & Apollo have had a good day.. he tried to play again with her.. but she wants him as her personal chew toy! He is correcting & being very patient.. most important today she is responding to his warnings. I also have been yelling OW! when she bites my hands & she is responding to that as well... She has played hard today so far.. glad she is napping!

going into her 9th week
Well Dakota has grown so much in 2 weeks! Her nose is a tracking machine, her eyesight is still having tracking issues.. but that is expected. Going up the stairs is really easy now.. but going down is still the scary propositon. Potty training is coming along too.. peddling still happens.. but most of the time she tells us when she needs to poo.
she has started stocking her toys, she will make eye contact on a toy & slowly creep up on it & then bounce! cracks us up. Bri bought her a new football this week.. she loves it.
Al & I want to get the fencing up, right now she still follows us, but she is developing a mind of her own ... she loves to follow us.. we need to make sure she continues that. I am doing some training, sitting, leave & come are the focus for now.
We didn't get our training session in last Saturday due to snow.. but it might be better for her.. another week older. I really want her (us) to pass the good citizen cert from the AKC... we need to trust her & vise versa.
Apollo is starting to except her more & more, he is laying on the floor & putting up with her play (chewing really ) He gave her a good warning a couple days ago, since then a little growl goes a long way with her.. she backs away now & is learning respect. He doesn't like her to cry & will come to her aid.. they really are making friends.. this is good.
Onto another day...

a week & half
well we have made it through a week & half & all is pretty good. Dakota is seriously teething now. I think I helped teach her how to chew yesterday, with a piece of ice, it helped sooth her. Today she is liking her Kong much better & she has figured out how to chew on it.
I tried a wet towel frozen, but she was having it, not sure she liked the texture, but may try it again. She is playing a bit harder now & gaining confidence!
Potty training is going, though we have to work on me seeing her signals that she wants out. Guess it will be a question for the trainer on Sat.
Hope it does snow today, so she can get a chance to rump in it... we will see...

Dakota Day 5
another great night! & she has pooed outside ! we are making progress with the potty training.
Dakota is starting to make eye contact with us.. short as it maybe, she is starting to understand our language & how the house works..
So happy she loves her kennel.. I like having a good safe place to put her when I need to be out of the room..

We are starting to get a good schedule going . Today Dakota got to go to Federal way with us.. her first trip in the kennel.. she did great!
We recieved her Pedigree & her paternal Grandfather is named Kody Dakota Wain. We had no idea what any of her family names were.. Think we named her well!

Dakota - Day 4
we had a great night, she didn't wake us up at all with crying! I was up once & she knew I was there.. I just told her it was still nite nite & she laid back down. Think it helps that Al gets her up when he is getting ready for work.. I actually slept till 7 this morning.
She ate & played, I decided it was shower time.. she didn't liked being left alone & cried for a few, but was nice & quite when I came back in the room.
We went for a walk.. in the drive way lol! she loves sticks & is very proud when she carries one around.. she is a retriever after all! Well she got tuckered out from that & I am having a few minutes of peace... guess I should be doing the dishes instead of Blogging lol!
she is learning how to jump up the steps! she makes it up 2 or3 & then gets frustrated.. soon she will be bounding up them!

Dakota - Day 3
Well, our night was better then the second night, she only woke me once & again it only took me talking to her & touching her through her kennel, back to sleep till Dad woke. She must of played some with him, as she was asleep when I woke.
Today we made her first trip to the vet, she was adorable & she passed with flying colors, first shot & de-wormer meds. She weighs in at 5 pounds. After the vet we went to Petsmart, she is a people magnet! Everyone wants to love on her! She got a puppy kong, a new squeaker stuff toy & a name tag!
Then we went to Starbucks so that Bri could share her with her co-workers! again she is a people magnet... hahaha
Al got some good play time with her, we got to hear her first play growl, so cute! She has a favorite spot to fall asleep, on the pillow stuff between my chair & the chouch... she either wants to tunnel or sleep on an incline. When she wants to sleep.. nothing stops her, Al just picks her up & puts her in her kennel.. & so she sleeps..:)
Once we got home,, it was time for a very long nap.. when she woke.. the new stuff toy was a total hit!

Well after a long night, she woke hungry! She didn't eat much on Saturday.. to busy to think about eating.
We decided we would take her for a visit to PetSmart, her first trip to the store! To bad she was tired out by them & slept in the cart the whole time. She had many admirers as we walked the store.
We bought her a wire kennel, puppy food, a couple of toys. When we picked her up, we brought flannel pieces that we rubbed her mom & dad with to so she would have their scents with her. That was a very smart thing, she liked having the flannel in her kennel.
The second night was a bit harder, she wasn't laying next to Dad & so she felt the separated.. She woke me up every 2 hours, I got up, talk to her in her kennel that seemed to reassure her & back to sleep she went.
This was a very trying day for me, as we got to know each other, she cried for about an hour this afternoon, it turns out she was wanting Apollo to be with us in the living rm. she promptly went to sleep when he joined us.

Coming home
Dakota Rain was born on Jan 4, 2011 to Diamond Rain & Maxiumus Lucein. Mom & Dad are pure bred Labrador Retrievers. We went to Salem, Or on Feb 12 to meet her, to say love at first sight is true! She is the runt of her litter, she has 5 sisters, all Yellow. Dakota is so small & petite. She didn't seem to mind the car ride, after all it was a 5 hour drive home. She played & slept all the way home.
When we got home, she got to meet Apollo our 11 year old Shep/chow boy. He didn't know really what to think about this little 6 week old puppy. All she wanted to do was to nip at his legs & fur.. looking for a mommy's nipple.
Dakota spent her first night in a storage crate next to "Dad".. She cried off & on during the night, but once Dad talked to her & gave a hand for her to smell.. she would dose off again.
